About

Welcome to UMHS

Here, we are dedicated to your success. We have established a modern medical school for students who deserve and demand a quality education in a small -school environment. Our faculty are highly credentialed and recruited primarily from the United States. They love to teach and dedicate virtually all of their time to their students and the classroom.

UMHS is fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM). This international accrediting body has adopted U.S. standards of accreditation and is recognized by both the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA) and the U.S. Department of Education.

"We have invested more than $100 million dollars to develop one of the most modern campuses in the Caribbean, with facilities and amenities that can compare, or even surpass, what you’d find at most U.S. medical schools."

The Basic Science Program, semesters 1–4, is located at our state-of-the-art campus on the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Kitts. Our traditional medical school curriculum compares with most U.S. medical schools. Students are tested in block format throughout each semester. Shelf examinations, created by the National Board of Medical Examiners, are integrated into the academic program to help prepare students for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). In addition, we have integrated the Kaplan USMLE review program into our Basic Science curriculum to ensure student success. UMHS is the only foreign medical school that offers such a program. Students have access to a variety of clinical settings including community health centers, local hospitals, skills laboratories, and professional patients. Pre-clinical exposure begins in the first semester and continues throughout the Basic Science Program.

We have invested more than $100 million dollars to develop one of the most modern campuses in the Caribbean, with facilities and amenities that can compare, or even surpass, what you’d find at most U.S. medical schools. Our wireless campus includes an 11,000 square-foot, state of the art anatomy building, a 24-bed virtual hospital equipped with state -of -the- art human simulators, multiple classrooms and laboratories, an auditorium, and a large library and learning resource center with over 52 computers for student use. All of our classrooms and laboratories are equipped with the latest in audio-visual equipment to enhance the quality of education.

Our anatomy lab is equipped with cutting-edge technology and is a model for U.S. schools to follow. We urge you to view the Campus section of our website for more details on all of our facilities.

UMHS has a wireless campus, so that you can access from anywhere on campus all student resources including PowerPoint presentations, class notes, objectives, course descriptions, and more. With our cloud-based Learning Management System (LMS), students can now access the same information anywhere throughout the world.

The Clinical Program, consisting of semesters 5–10, is completed at major teaching hospitals in the U.S. and Canada. The fifth semester, which includes a clinical correlations and board review component, is held at our Portland, Maine campus. During the fifth semester, our students have an opportunity to work one-on-one with a large number of highly qualified and credentialed physician preceptors. Also, our fifth semester live USMLE review program includes outstanding faculty from U.S. medical schools to prepare students for Step 1 of the exam. As a result, we had a 94% pass rate on Step 1, with an average score of 226 for the period of Spring 2017 to Fall 2018.

Compared to most of the other foreign medical schools, the cost of education is considerably lower at UMHS. We understand the impact of significant student debt, so we work hard to keep our tuition low and ensure that your education is affordable. When considering your options, remember that our outcomes are as good—if not better—than any of the other Caribbean medical schools, at half the price. In addition, our students qualify for a variety of Sallie Mae loans that can cover the full cost of attendance.

To help you learn more about the benefits of attending UMHS, I would like to invite you to attend one of ourwebinars or in-person information sessions. Also, if you are in the New York area, please feel free to stop by our administrative office and meet our admissions staff.

As a hands-on President, I am always interested in meeting new students. Feel free to come in and say hello.

Sincerely yours,

Warren Ross
