About

St. George’s University launched the School of Veterinary Medicine in 1999 to deliver quality medical education in an international setting, and to be one of the top veterinary schools in the world. SGU’s veterinary medicine program offers students a unique, innovative, and international approach to veterinary medicine. Our program integrates basic science curriculum into clinical practice with the use of simulation models, case-based teaching, and 6:1 student-to-faculty ratios.

St. George's University Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA COE), which means SGU graduates are fully eligible to seek licensure in the USA and Canada without further steps other than successfully passing the NAVLE. SGU has also received full accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the organization that sets the standards of veterinary care in the United Kingdom, through 2024.

In 2018/2019 our students and graduates obtained a 92% pass rate on the NAVLE.

Our School of Veterinary Medicine graduates not only score well on the NAVLE compared to students from US schools, but SGU veterinary medicine students also gain extensive hands-on training earlier than in most programs. In addition to our state-of-the-art large animal facility and our marine station, the SGU Small Animal Clinic helps local pets live longer through vaccination services, deworming, and parasite management. The clinic serves more than 1,200 residents and handles close to 200 patients each week.
