About
The Department of Pharmacy Services at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital comprises approximately 70 pharmacists and 70 technicians. We utilize a mix of decentralized clinical staff and specialists to provide pharmaceutical care for patient populations ranging from Level 1 trauma to neonatal critical care.
In addition to our personnel, we use multiple technologies to deliver care, including Pyxis Medstations, centralized carousels, computerized prescriber order entry, electronic medical records, clinical decision support systems for surveillance and bedside barcode scanning. Approximately 45 percent of our pharmacists are adjunct or associate professors at regional schools of pharmacy and medicine.
CRMH is an academic medical center associated with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, with numerous medical and surgical training programs as well as trainees from many other disciplines. Within this learning environment, our pharmacist staff are highly integrated into the care of our patients, participating in and leading clinical activities that include:
- Academic, interdisciplinary, patient care rounding
- Pharmacokinetic dosing
- Renal dose adjustments of medications
- Anticoagulation dosing and monitoring

- Emergency response (cardiac arrest, strokes, traumas, STEMI and others)
