In the Blue Ridge Mountains, scenic Hendersonville has plenty of outdoor activities available year-round and the best of all 4 seasons. Mountain backdrops and a friendly, family feel come and experience the difference.

Curriculum

The Wingate University School of Pharmacy curriculum is designed to prepare student pharmacists to practice in any health care setting and to address the needs of any patient. In collaboration with your teaching faculty and faculty advisor, you will be immersed in a program that stands upon four pillars. These include Practice Experience, Pharmacotherapy, Professionalization and the Pharmaceutical Sciences.

These four pillars are organized into sequences and individual courses that will shape the four years spent earning your PharmD, but it is Practice Experience that distinguishes Wingate University School of Pharmacy and shapes all of your student pharmacist years. Clinical experiences begin the first semester of the first year, and continue each year of school. This culminates in nine, five-week experience modules that will make up your fourth year.

While Pharmacotherapy begins in your first year through an introduction to the Top 200 drugs, it will drive your second and third years. Active, case-based classroom learning is complemented by small group (6 students, 1 faculty) discussions centered on solving clinical problems. This problem-based learning is a hallmark of our program and will shape your emerging professional role.

Classroom time spent on Professionalization will focus on developing your critical thinking skills, learning how to manage ethical dilemmas, communication skill development, understanding pharmacy law, and leadership development among other topics. The concepts you incorporate will be applied in your practice experience years and throughout your career.

Pharmacy is a science-based profession, and your prerequisite study of the sciences will be enhanced with an intensive focus on the Pharmaceutical Sciences. This focus begins in your first semester through a course that integrates key biological sciences and builds the foundation for the development of your clinical skills.

School History

Wingate University School of Pharmacy opened its doors to applicants in 2002, with the charter class beginning its program of study in August 2003. The charter class graduated on May 12, 2007. Wingate University School of Pharmacy has been fully accredited. The accrediting agency for schools of pharmacy is the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). The accreditation process was initiated in 2002. Full accreditation was formally awarded upon graduation of the charter class in 2007. This is the normal accreditation process and timeline for all schools of pharmacy. Additionally, the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS) approved the University to award the doctoral degree (Doctor of Pharmacy Degree) in 2004. In 2011, the pharmacy program expanded to the city of Hendersonville NC, and now resides in a state of the art health sciences campus. The ACPE recently renewed Wingate University School of Pharmacy’s full accreditation for an eight-year cycle through June 30, 2029, the maximum allowable accreditation term.
