The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education is one of 13 degree-granting units at Ohio University, which was named the #1 Best Value Public University by U.S. News and World Report for the third consecutive year. The Patton College prepares educators, practitioners and human service professionals to be leaders. In addition to being the academic home of renowned scholars, The Patton College is fully accredited and embraces a hands-on, clinical approach to education and teacher preparation. We have a long and distinguished history of preparing leader-educators, practitioners, and human service professionals who share our commitment to lifelong learning and serving society responsibly as change agents to meet diverse human and social needs.

The college comprises four departments: Counseling and Higher EducationEducational Studies, Recreation, Sport Pedagogy and Consumer Sciences, and Teacher Education.

In addition to traditional campus-based programs of study, we offer fully online master's degrees and graduate-level endorsements and certificates. Online Master's degrees:

Master's in Computer Education and Technology
The master's degree program in computer education and technology serves educators who hold a professional teaching license in another field and wish to complete a master's of technology and/or seek a multi-age endorsement in Computer Technology. The program prepares technology facilitators to use technology more effectively in their teaching and to become technology leaders in their school or district. The program is nationally recognized by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). Students may begin during fall and spring semesters | Culminates with a campus-based doctoral program.

Master's in Curriculum and Instruction
This fully online program is designed for teachers and educators who have a teaching license or certificate in any content area or at any age/grade-band level. Teachers entering the C&I master’s program at Ohio University can advance their knowledge, skills, and dispositions in instruction, curriculum design, and evaluation. Students may begin during any semester | Culminates with a campus-based doctoral program.

Master's in Coaching Education
Success in sports is a moving target. To get ahead, you must commit to lifelong learning and continuous improvement. You must also strive to develop at a faster pace than your peers. Gain your competitive edge with a Master of Coaching Education from top-ranked Ohio University. Students may begin during any semester | Also offered on campus.

Master's in Coaching Education - Soccer
We proudly offer the only soccer-specific coaching degree in the United State. This unique degree program is delivered primarily in an online format with a face-to-face residency at the United Soccer Coaches Convention. Students may begin during spring and summer semesters.

Master's in Higher Education
The 100% online cohort master's curriculum prepares administrators in Higher Education. It offers meaningful knowledge and skills through an online delivery format with an emphasis on increasing diversity in the field of higher education. The schedule enables employed individuals to take courses at convenient times and locations as well as online. Students may begin during any semester / Culminates with a campus-based doctoral program

Master's in Reading Education
The faculty within this advanced master's program work to help licensed teachers further their knowledge and understanding of language and reading development, teach reading across grades K–12, administer reading assessments and make data-driven decisions, work with other teachers and specialists to design appropriate reading instruction to meet the needs of all students, and develop and conduct original research to further their own learning. The degree also includes the Reading Endorsement for interested teachers. Students may begin during summer and fall semesters.

Master's in Special Education (SPED) - Early Childhood, Mild to Moderate, and Moderate to Intensive Tracks
The focus of the Special Education program at Ohio University centers on the delivery of quality services within limited resource environments. Our caring faculty offers support at every level and we have a 100% job placement rate for our graduates. Students may begin during summer and fall semesters.

Online Endorsements:

Computer/Technology Endorsement
Our multi-age Computer/Technology Endorsement program prepares licensed K12 teachers who plan to teach computer applications or who want to assume technology coordinator positions. It provides the K-12 teacher with an opportunity to provide instruction in the area of computer literacy and computer education in Ohio classrooms. Students may begin during fall and spring semesters.

Pre-Kindergarten Special Needs Endorsement
Early childhood teachers and intervention specialists will benefit from the PKSN program by acquiring advanced knowledge and skills to enhance the early educational opportunities for preschool children with special needs. Students may begin during any semester.

Reading Endorsement
The Reading Endorsement enhances your knowledge and instructional skill in reading and writing beyond the foundation required of beginning teachers. Courses are offered at the graduate level and may be used to renew your teaching license or can be used as part of a Master's in Reading Education. Students may begin during summer and fall semesters.

Online Certificates:

Instructional Design Certificate
Higher education requires instructional design skills and experience to support faculty. K12 is following this trend and industry has long been at the forefront of integrating designed educational experiences into their training systems. Students may begin during fall and spring semesters.

Mixed Methods Research Certificate
Our newest online certificate focuses on Mixed Methods Research and is designed to prepare students to become effective users who can utilize mixed methods in practice. Mixed methods systematically integrate quantitative and qualitative approaches to research in order to answer research questions and provide opportunities for the inclusion of a variety of theoretical perspectives. Our certificate can open the door to advancement and new opportunities for user experience (UX) and public health professionals, researchers, and educators.
Students may begin during fall semester.
