About

Mercer University's Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is housed within the Department of Physical Therapy and the College of Health Professions.  The Department of Physical Therapy consists of the entry-level DPT Program; three post-professional residency programs in orthopaedic, neurologic, and cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy; a fellowship in manual orthopaedic physical therapy; and an on-site physical therapy clinic with two full-time physical therapists seeing approximately 400 patients/month.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is an innovative eight-semester program that provides a comprehensive entry-level professional education, including an integrated clinical education track that consists of three service-learning courses, two part-time clinical experiences, and three 12-week full-time clinical experiences. Mercer DPT students are actively engaged in patient/client-related activities each semester. The DPT curriculum provides a strong foundation in basic, applied, and physical therapy science courses.

Hallmarks of the DPT program include demonstrating sound clinical reasoning and clinical skills, being a strong consumer of the literature supporting physical therapy, and engaging in leadership activities.

We are proud of our 100% pass rate on the NPTE since our first graduating class in 2013.  Our graduates have engaged in residencies and fellowships; held state and national professional association positions; practice in a variety of settings, including the military and other prominent facilities such as the Shepherd Center; and own or manage outpatient practices in orthopaedics and women's health.

Mercer's Department of Physical Therapy is housed in the College of Health Professions, which is also the home of physician assistant studies, public health, clinical psychology, kinesiology, and athletic training.
