The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine is the nation’s largest medical school and the only Academic Health Center among the colleges of osteopathic medicine. With Millcreek Community Hospital and the Clinical Practices of Medical Associates of Erie, the College is the core of LECOM Health, an innovative medical education and health care system. This partnership strives to add to the quality of life for our neighbors by bringing total health care to the community. The Health Center has a 218-bed teaching hospital training new physicians and pharmacists in 14 residency and fellowship programs in the region’s largest post-graduate medical training institution.
The College opened one of the top fitness and wellness facilities in the country, built a network of physician offices and operates a senior living center that is introducing a new generation in skilled nursing care for older adults. LECOM Health provides clinical training opportunities for pharmacy students throughout these facilities.
LECOM offers innovative and affordable education in osteopathic medicine, pharmacy and dental medicine. From campuses in Erie and Greensburg, Pa. and Bradenton, Fla., LECOM provides student-centered pathways to prepare the next generation of health care professionals.
The Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) takes a total-person approach to health care encompassing the mind, body and spirit of the patient as the osteopathic physician becomes a partner with the patient on a pathway to health and well-being.
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine is looking for medical students who will excel in academics, clinical care, research and community service. The College selects applicants who show an awareness of osteopathic medicine recognizing total-person health care for the patient and for the community.
LECOM has designed a student-centered curriculum recognizing different learning styles: traditional Lecture Discussion Pathway (LDP); small-group, Problem-Based Learning Pathway; or the Self Directed-Study Pathway (DSP, formerly Independent Study). LECOM offers the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree at three campuses. The Erie Pennsylvania campus offers five learning pathways, while the Greensburg and Bradenton campuses enroll students in PBL only. LECOM Erie also offers the Primary Care Scholars Pathway (PCSP) designed to attract more students to primary care, general internal medicine, and family medicine by condensing four years of medical education into three years. The Accelerated Physician Assistant Pathway (APAP), also allows Certified Physician Assistants (PA-C) to earn a DO degree in three years. APAP is available at the Erie and Greensburg campuses.
The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) recognized the growing national need for pharmacists and opened the School of Pharmacy in 2002. LECOM believes that new trends in the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum have complementary goals to the total-person, patient-centered care fostered by osteopathic medicine.
The LECOM School of Pharmacy has structured its classroom and experiential curriculum to prepare future pharmacists to provide patient care that ensures optimal therapeutic outcomes.
The mission for the LECOM School of Pharmacy is to prepare pharmacy professionals committed to providing high-quality, ethical, and empathetic patient-centered pharmaceutical care to serve the needs of a diverse population via three education pathways: Accelerated Pathway, Florida Pathway, and Distance Education Pathway. Through the integration of the sciences with critical thinking skills and effective communication, LECOM will prepare future pharmacists to be strong patient advocates and leaders in their communities, in professional associations, and research activities.
The LECOM School of Pharmacy offers three pathways to the PharmD degree. We have added the four-year distance education pathway to our three-year accelerated pathway in Erie and four-year pathway in Bradenton.

The dental school leadership team has created a unique curriculum that is both innovative and patient-centered. Students follow a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) curriculum that emphasizes self-directed study with a team approach through mentored, small-group, case-based study; LECOM recognizes that dentists have become integral team players in improving the health of their patients. The role they play in preventive medicine complements the osteopathic principals of total healthcare as taught by the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the School of Pharmacy.
As with the College of Medicine and School of Pharmacy, the mission of the LECOM School of Dental Medicine is to prepare students to become dentists through programs of excellence in education, research, clinical care, and community service to enhance the quality of life through improved health for all humanity.
With our commitment to quality education at an affordable cost, LECOM is determined to prepare dentists who can deliver the best healthcare outcomes. Early in the curriculum, students will gain clinical experience working with patients from the Bradenton community. The College has built clinical group practices on campus to provide dental treatments for residents who face challenges in obtaining needed dental care. Our senior year outreach group practices provide each student with a year of hands-on clinical training and they will reach more people at dental offices in Defuniak Springs, Fla., as well as in Erie, Pa.
The main campus in Erie overlooks Lake Erie. The West Grandview Boulevard campus is less than a mile from Millcreek Community Hospital and just a few miles away from downtown Erie.
