WHY GW DPT?

GW’s DPT Program attracts students who seek a wealth of cultural and institutional resources that can be found in our nation’s capital and who possess a broad range of educational backgrounds and professional experiences. GW students don’t just participate in DC life; they stimulate it. Students are actively involved in campus organizations and participate in community service opportunities both locally and globally.

GW students benefit from our proximity to national and international organizations such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Access to the nation's capital is only one of many opportunities available to students who choose to attend GW. Additionally, the University is within minutes of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

Through evidence-based clinical practice, innovative teaching, and leading-edge research, GW DPT educates students to become leaders in their profession. Faculty and students are actively involved in collaborative research and in professional activities—from advocacy on Capitol Hill to pro bono clinical practice. Our small class size allows us to work closely with students to personalize their didactic and clinical experiences.

We are committed to educating:

  • Well-qualified and compassionate practitioners who demonstrate expert clinical skills and contribute significantly to the lives of their clients, the profession, and the health care enterprise;
  • Physical therapists who are reflective practitioners who think critically and use best evidence to effectively problem-solve;
  • Practitioners who demonstrate respect for individual and cultural differences as well as the core values of the profession;
  • Dedicated practitioners who value the tenets of lifelong learning and scholarly inquiry

Our Curriculum

GW DPT students enter the clinic setting as early as the second semester. Two part-time Integrated Clinical Experiences and three full-time clinical experiences provide students with the knowledge, skills, and professionals behaviors needed to thrive as general practitioners in any field of physical therapy. Located regionally, nationally, and internationally, our clinical education offerings provide depth and breadth to each student’s unique educational experience. Learn more about the DPT curriculum.

Our Outcomes

The GW DPT program is committed to the success of its students, which is demonstrated by excellent outcome measures. 100% of GW DPT students have passed their licensing exam on their first attempt for nine years (2010-2018) consecutively. Learn more about our program outcomes.
