About

Central Consolidated is in the heart of the beautiful Four Corners region and is located in San Juan County.  It lies in the northwest corner of New Mexico and shares its borders with Arizona to the west, Colorado to the north, and Utah in the northwest.  Most of the District is anchored within the northeastern section of the Navajo Nation, which is the largest Native American Indian tribe both in land area and population. 

Central Consolidated School District is New Mexico’s 11th largest school district serving approximately 6,400 students.  Of those students, 2% are Hispanic, % are Anglo, and 89% are Navajo.  In terms of area, the District covers approximately 3,000 square miles.  It serves the communities of Kirtland, Ojo Amarillo, Newcomb, Naschitti, and Shiprock.  There are nine elementary schools, three middle schools, three high schools, and one alternative high school. 

                           

Farmington, New Mexicois the largest city in the region with a population of close to 60,000.  San Juan County’s population is 110,000 and it is estimated that there is a trading population of over 220,000.  Farmington is the closest retail center with shopping centers and major department stores.  From Farmington it is about 10 miles to Kirtland, 30 miles to Shiprock, and 65 miles to Newcomb.  Albuquerque is the largest city in the state is just over three hours from the District’s communities.  Gallup, New Mexicoand Cortez, Colorado are also regional retail centers.

 

Central Consolidated School District has over 1,500 employees dedicated to “Weaving Ancient Wisdom and Modern Knowledge!” We are working diligently to improve school planning, training, performance, student interventions, and organizational assessment.  This framework provides tools to establish classroom goals and measures, design classroom instruction, and use data to monitor progress to achieve higher student academic performance and success. 

 

In order to Provide a spectrum of learning experiences several special programs are also offered including Parent As Teachers (PAT), Gifted and Enrichment Services, Muti-Cultural Services, Bilingual Services, and more.

 

Higher education and professional development opportunities abound in Central Consolidated School District, as well as many other colleges and university extension branches, to include through Fort Lewis College, Dine’ College, San Juan College, Eastern New Mexico University, and the University of New Mexico.
