  1. Master of Public Health - Full-Time, One Year Accelerated
  2. Master of Public Health - Evening Part-Time
  3. M.S. Biostatistics
  4. MD/MPH - (for students applying/admitted to the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine)

  6. Non-Degree Program

Concentrations:

Students in the MPH Program can choose a generalist track or one of the following concentrations:

  • Epidemiology: This program is designed for students looking to understand the distribution and determinants of conditions important to population health. This concentration will equip students to design, implement, and analyze studies to better understand a range of health challenges facing various populations. Students will be prepared to work in data analysis or project management roles, in positions at local or national health agencies or to further their studies in medicine or epidemiology.
  • Community Health Research: This concentration is for students who are interested in how to conduct and apply public health research to positively impact the health of communities. The concentration will equip students to understand issues affecting health equity in communities and the role of community stakeholders in working equitably alongside researchers to develop approaches that improve community health.  Students will be prepared to work in academic and community settings in research and project management roles

Real-World Experience:

Students take part in two professional experiences that provide first hand public health experience.

First, students participate in a Field Experience that provides perspective into either a Chicago area public health organization or an international global health site. Students engage with not only their host organization/site but also with the communities and populations service.

Finally, at the end of MPH coursework, students complete their Culminating Experience (CE), a capstone-style extensive research or practice-related project. Students lead in the design, development, and completion of the project and are supported by a mentor group of faculty members. Many students go on to publish their CE in academic journals or continue professional work in the area of their CE.

Chicago: In the center of it all

Our program capitalizes on and emphasizes the unique resources available through the Northwestern medical school, its faculty, and the Chicago area. It reflects the diversity of the city in which our school resides. Chicago is at the nexus of public health research and practice as we address the rising needs of health equity across the city. Our students work alongside researchers and practitioners in developing approaches to improve community health.  Chicago is known as a ‘City of Neighborhoods’ and provides numerous opportunities to get hands-on experience engaging in vibrant, diverse communities that a wide range of populations have called home for generations.

Our downtown Chicago campus located in the heart of the city.
