About

Phoenix, Arizona

SCNM is on the forefront of advancing the naturopathic medical profession and boasts many “firsts.” SCNM developed the first curriculum redesign, created the first Career Services Center for alumni success, launched the industry’s first job board – NDJoblink.com, joined the centralized ND application system (NDCAS) with the first schools, and moved the teaching clinic to electronic health records first.

The SCNM Difference
Our students begin to receive clinical experience on the first day of class. SCNM was the first naturopathic medical school to complete and implement a cutting-edge curriculum; SCNM prepares NDs with the broadest education and the most clinical experience. The progressive SCNM model is interactive and built upon proven, effective methods such as team-based learning, a body-systems approach for teaching basic science and early clinical experiences. These methods are used by the world’s most prestigious medical schools. SCNM has pioneered naturopathic programs in environmental medicine, women’s health and pediatrics.

Observation in a Medical Practice Setting with Physicians: In the field observation program, students shadow NDs in private practices and SCNM’s community clinics for medically-underserved children and families, domestic violence victims, individuals battling HIV/AIDS and individuals recovering from addiction. Students learn first-hand about interacting with patients and running a practice. Students can begin their field observation program as early as their first year.

Student Rotations at the Largest Naturopathic Medical Center in the Southwest: The SCNM Medical Center, attracting more than 20,000 patients a year, is a teaching clinic for SCNM’s medical students. The high-tech classrooms in the facility are equipped with multimedia LCDs, video, and wireless internet. The center boasts 27 exam rooms, six classrooms, an IV-therapy suite, an in-house laboratory, Arizona’s largest natural pharmacy plus a one-of-a-kind hydrotherapy suite featuring saunas, a steam room, colon hydrotherapy rooms, and traditional hydrotherapy facilities.

Hands-On Community Outreach: SCNM students served more than 50,000 people in more than 100 medical centers throughout the Phoenix area last year. Through extended site and elective clerkships, students can see patients, under the supervision of an attending physician, in numerous community clinics or health care facilities such as private practices and hospitals.

Career Services
SCNM established the first Career Center among ND schools to help students and alumni fulfill their career goals. With access to more than 100 physicians and companies, students have opportunities for high-paying careers. The Career Services Center shares hundreds of job opportunities with alumni annually and recently launched the industry’s first job board – NDJoblink.com

7 out of 10 Summer Graduates Have Positions Before Graduating: The SCNM Career Services Center aids students and alumni in pursuing post-graduate training such as residency programs and creating career opportunities. The career services director assists students and alumni by providing resources and information about the naturopathic medical profession, ultimately helping them to create a plan for success that will maximize their earning opportunities. SCNM is proud to have the first and longest operating career services center in the naturopathic profession and maintains its reputation by being innovative and forward thinking.

Campus
SCNM’s campus is located in the Phoenix area within a 20-minute drive of desert mountain parks and many outdoor attractions.
