The associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant will prepare graduates for roles in hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, schools, skilled nursing facilities, and day treatment centers. Students may find additional value in the Occupational Therapy Assistant associate degree, as the demand for occupational therapy services is expected to increase in the near future, thus creating additional demand for career opportunities for individuals with degrees that meet the needs of the occupational therapy field.
*The final semester of the Occupational Therapy Assistant program mandates that students fulfill full-time day fieldwork participation.
The occupational therapy assistant program at Wauwatosa is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Graduates of the Wauwatosa program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapy assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
The occupational therapy assistant programs at Syracuse, Greece and Eastlake have applied for accreditation and have been granted Candidacy Status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Once accreditation of the programs at Syracuse, Greece and Eastlake has been obtained, the graduates from these programs will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapy assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

Once accreditation has been obtained, the program’s graduates will be eligible to sit for the certification exam for an occupational therapy assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, individuals will be Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants. In addition, most states require licensure or authorization, in addition to passing the NBCOT exam, for a graduate to practice.
*Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification exam or attain state licensure or authorization.
