Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program

Butler University is home to the oldest physician assistant (PA) program in the State of Indiana. Our 24-month curriculum will prepare you to take the national certification exam, apply for state licensure, and provide patient care in various medical or surgical practice settings. We are in the heart of Indianapolis, the 14th largest city in the country and partner with all the major healthcare systems to offer students outstanding clinical experiences. We have supervised clinical experiences in rural and undeserved areas too. Butler’s program boasts above-national-average board passing rates with very low attrition as well as a 100% job placement rate within six months of graduation. This makes Butler one of the premier PA programs in the country. 

Prerequisites
 All candidates for admission must be awarded a Bachelor's degree prior to matriculation into the MPAS program.

The minimum cumulative GPA for consideration to the Butler University MPAS program is 3.4. Prerequisite courses must be successfully completed prior to matriculation with no grade of a "C-" or less.

The GRE is required of applicants. A minimum score is not required at this time.

Inorganic (General) Chemistry + Lab - 2 semesters
Organic Chemistry + Lab - 1 semester
300 Level or higher Chemistry - 1 semester
200 Level or higher Biology - 5 semesters of biology-related courses
Psychology and/or Sociology - 2 semesters
Statistics or Bio Statistics - 1 semester

PharmD Professional Program

The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences offers a six-year doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) degree program that prepares students to become advanced pharmacy practitioners who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to serve as authorities for the appropriate use of medications.  The program creates pharmacy practitioners who can readily apply pharmaceutical, biomedical science, and therapeutic information and skills to identify, prevent, and solve medication-related problems. Doctor of pharmacy practitioners are capable of contributing to the interdisciplinary delivery of health care and can function as drug therapy information specialists. Students also are prepared for specialty professional training and for graduate study in the pharmaceutical sciences.

Students of the pharmacy program will complete ample training in the didactic classroom as well experience abundant training in the practice setting outside the classroom via experiential learning experiences. 

Butler University’s pharmacy program boasts an outstanding 2013-2015 aggregate first-time licensing exam passing rates of 99.71% and a 93% job placement rate following graduation.

All applicants must apply through PharmCas, the Pharmacy College Application Services at PharmCAS.org when applying to the professional phase of the pharmacy program from any university outside of Butler.

To ensure proper evaluation of transfer credit, applications should be completed early. Application deadline is Jan. 5, 2017 for the professional phase.

  • Unless you have a previous bachelors degree you must submit your high school transcript.
  • External transfer student applicants’ previously completed coursework will be evaluated by the Butler University Admissions office for an assessment of admission criteria
  • Applicants’ transcripts will also be assessed by the University Registrar and COPHS administration to assess completed coursework and outstanding pre-requisite requirements

Students with more than 12 semester hours after high school will be considered transfer students. If you have less than nine hours of college credit, you should follow the procedures for first-year applicants.

Admission Criteria Recommendations for First-Year/Pre-Pharmacy Applicants

The recommended GPA for applicants to the Butler University Pre-Pharmacy Program is 3.3 or above, a composite ACT of 26 or greater or a critical reading and math combined SAT of 1280 or greater, and 4 years of math and lab science coursework.  

Admissions Criteria Recommendation for Professional Phase Pharmacy Program Transfer Applicants

To be admissible to Butler University's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences pharmacy program, all transfer applicants are recommended to have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater. Students will also be required to complete an individual interview for admission and complete a standardized writing prompt.
