About PCOM School of Pharmacy - Georgia Campus
Responding to the rising need for pharmacists nationally, and particularly in the South, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine's Georgia Campus now offers a four-year Doctor of Phamacy (PharmD) degree program in Suwanee, just north of Atlanta.
PCOM School of Pharmacy's Doctor of Pharmacy program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), 135 LaSalle Street, Suite 4100, Chicago, IL 60503-4810, www.acpe-accredit.org.
The PharmD program provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare a well-rounded pharmacist capable of practicing in many different healthcare environments. The role of the pharmacist continues to evolve with opportunities in community/retail practice including drug, department stores or mass merchandisers; clinics or compounding labs; mail order or pharmaceutical wholesalers; healthcare and government agencies; as well as pharmaceutical research and development.
During the program's first three years, students split time between the classroom and introductory experiential learning. In the fourth year, students take part in eight five-week hands on clinical rotations, gaining exposure to multiple pharmacy specialty areas and practices. A required clinical rotation, Advanced Community Management Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience, is designed to expose students to the managerial and business side of operating a pharmacy.
As part of this professionally-oriented education, students work in state-of-the-art classrooms and teaching laboratiories, including a sterile products lab, compounding lab and simulated pharmacy practice lab. Other advanced resources include a Pyxis automated dispensing machine and laminar flow hoods to prepare sterile products using aseptic techniques such as intravenous solutions. Clinical learning and assessment laboratories utilizing simulated patients and a cadaver anatomy lab are other resources offered by the program.
Although their primary focus is on teaching, School of Pharmacy faculty also conduct research in basic, clinical and administrative sciences, and share their subject expertise and scholarly work with students and colleagues alike. For more information, download our brochure.
