October's CareerEco Event:

NO FLUFF...JUST THE REALLY GOOD STUFF!

I came away with three refreshing and real perspectives on the "ECO" topic. Each speaker offered a deep understanding of his subject matter, which in turn made being a part of the information exchange highly valuable. Also, while each of speakers personalities were quite different, I was inspired by their individual passion and commitment for what they know to be their purpose.

Oh yeah, winning my first ever CareerEco Event door prize was really cool too! Paula and I have exchanged Emails and we're working on the "package"...she's awesome too.

I'm very interested in learning more details about the upcoming Smart Grid event and appreciate you forwarding any information you may have.

I was very inspired from the comments made by both Laura and Ira. Gayle, I thought you did a very good job keeping the conversation moving forward. ---I will move forward in my endeavors knowing that I am one of the leaders. I am very passionate about the environment and keeping it healthy is for all that is living is vitally important. Imagine having breakfast with Atlanta's eco-icon, Laura Turner Seydel, along with Ira Blumenthal, an accomplished entrepreneur, author, professional public speaker, and university professor who moved from the world of enterprise to 'eco-prise.'

Laura Turner Seydel:
As one of the most influential women in the environmental movement today, Laura developed her passion for protecting the environment at an early age. As daughter of CNN founder and philanthropist Ted Turner, she saw firsthand how ecologically devastated many areas of the world are. Her many leadership responsibilities include: Chairman of the Captain Planet Foundation, Co-founder of Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, Co-founder of Mothers & Others for Clean Air, Trustee of the Turner Foundation.

Ira Blumenthal:
A self-proclaimed environmentalist in training, Ira is President of Captain Planet Foundation and leads the Foundation's efforts to support hands-on, environmental projects for youth by building relationships within the environmental, educational and business communities as well as overseeing the Foundation's grant portfolio. A sought after keynote speaker, Blumenthal has also been a visiting instructor at The University of Notre Dame, Michigan State University and currently serves as inaugural Executive-In-Residence at Georgia State University's School of Hospitality. Additionally, he is the author of the popular marketing book, Ready, Blame, Fire! and is the co-author (with Coca-Cola executive Jerry Wilson) of Managing Brand You, a best seller in the works.

How did the event inspire you and/or what will you do differently because of what you saw

or heard in this session?

I was able to understand how what I do might fit into the Green industry better.

The event inspired me to push forward with my thesis knowing that there are great resources available through networking.

I will volunteer my time with a more focused interest on things that I would consider doing for a living.

Definitely will read those books recommended and have learned that there is a green opportunity in almost everything and every venture.

I feel better about my job prospects after I graduate. I am excited to use the website to look for jobs.

I left with hope, for my ideas and I won't be afraid to ask for what I want and mingle with people I normally would not have.

This was both inspiring and educational!

The panel was magnificent. All three Ladies were a breath of fresh air. They did not mind answering questions and participating in the networking process.
